1. Descision

This course is established by Dean 2025-05-06. The course syllabus is approved by Head of Department of Strategic Sustainable Development 2025-08-29 and applies from 2025-08-29.

2. Entry requirements

Admission to the course requires at least 120 completed credits, including 2.5 credits about the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD). English 6.

3. Objective and content

3.1 Objective

The purpose of this course is to support the students in collaboratively developing a support portfolio for strategic sustainabledevelopment. The course focuses on a general approach to structuring the exploration of various concepts, methods and tools in thesustainable development field and then exploring some of these in detail. The students should leave the course having a goodoverview of which tools, methods and concepts to use, what critical questions to ask, and what considerations to be aware of forimplementation.

3.2 Content

The course contains:

  • A general approach to structuring the exploration of various concepts, methods and tools in the sustainable development field.
  • A suite of concepts, methods and tools in the sustainable development field.

4. Learning outcomes

The following learning outcomes are examined in the course:

4.1. Knowledge and understanding

On completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe and discuss different concepts, methods and tools within the field of sustainable development.

4.2. Competence and skills

On completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Use a strategic approach to structure and coordinate concepts, methods and tools for analysis, assessment, and planning within the area of sustainability.
  • Assess and choose relevant sustainability related concepts, methods and tools to be integrated within their own work or study context.
  • Communicate and critically discuss in writing and orally various concepts, methods and tools with a variety of peers.

4.3. Judgement and approach

On completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Justify the relevance and choice of different concepts, methods and tools in a given context for strategic sustainable development.

5. Learning activities

The course is focused on a group project and peer learning to create a toolbox for strategic sustainable development. In order to support this problem-based peer learning, teachers provide a combination of lectures, coaching to groups, feedback, as well as readings and video resources.

The course will be graded G Pass, UX Failed result, a little more work required, U Fail.

The examiner may carry out oral follow-up of written examinations.

The information before the start of the course states the assessment criteria and make explicit in which modes of examination that the learning outcomes are assessed.

An examiner can, after consulting the Disability Advisor at BTH, decide on a customized examination form for a student with a long-term disability to be provided with an examination equivalent to one given to a student who is not disabled.
