This course is established by Dean 2021-02-10. The course syllabus is approved by Head of Department of Spatial Planning 2021-03-01 and applies from 2021-08-30.
Admission to the course requires completed courses of at least 60 credits in the area of spatial planning, architecture or equivalent fields.
The aim of the course is to deepen the students’ knowledge in the field of urban development. The focus is on understanding major urban development problems and change processes in a European context. The course applies specialised knowledge of site analysis and design to a change proposal in a complex urban environment
The course focuses on a selected city and complex planning problems and processes in a European context. The historical emergence and importance of a city in a region is analysed, for example with regard to land use, population, socio-economic factors, traffic systems, green structures, the nature of its buildings, and cultural environments. Selected project areas are studied and programmes for an urban renewal project, including a design proposal, are formulated and presented. In a final assignment, trends and attitudes in current European urban development are problematised.

The course consists of an individual urban planning project that is interspersed with analytical elements and lectures.
